One Mind

The vast body of evidence pointing to the existence of the One Mind, or by its ancient name, The Mind of God, comes, of all places, from savants.
The word savant comes from a French word meaning “a learned/knowledgeable person.” Despite that meaning, savants often hold knowledge they could not have acquired through their experience or learning, and could not have worked out on their own either. Savants are often seen as mentally or socially impaired. Some also call them autistic or people on the spectrum, yet they have astonishing creative and intuitive powers of unclear origin in fields such as mathematics, art or music.
“Savant syndrome” was then popularized by the 1988 film Rain Man.
Kim Peek, the man with a developmental disability who inspired the film, knew more than 7,600 books by heart, as well as every area code, highway, zip code and TV station in the US.
Leslie Lemke, a blind savant with developmental disabilities and cerebral palsy, was born with glaucoma, and the doctors had to remove his eyes. His mother gave him up for adoption, and May Lemke, a nurse, adopted him when he was six months old. He was 12 before he learned to stand and 15 before he learned to walk. When he was 16, May found him playing Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1 in the middle of the night, even though he had never studied piano… This was after he had heard the piece on television.
He was soon playing every style of music, the well-known and the lesser-known. He composed, and he could play thousands of pieces flawlessly, even ones he had heard only once. Lemke became a worldwide sensation.
During World War II, the British government employed two mathematical savants to serve as human computers. They had perfect calculating ability and never made a single mistake.
One mathematical savant was shown a checkerboard with one grain of rice on the first of its 64 squares. He was then asked how many grains of rice there would be on the last square if the grains were doubled on each square. Forty-five seconds later he gave the correct answer, which exceeds the total number of atoms in the sun…
An autistic savant who could not write his name or a sentence, yet always, always knew in advance when his parents had unexpectedly decided to pick him up from school (he usually rode the school bus), would tell his astonished teacher that his parents were coming, and was always waiting for them at the door when they arrived. Other parents described their autistic children as able to hear conversations that were completely out of hearing range, and able to pick up unspoken thoughts.
In another case, a savant girl was able to predict accurately, a week before Christmas, what her gift packages would contain, even though she had no way of knowing and had been given no hints as to what her gifts might be. Another could always predict accurately when the phone would ring and who was calling. These and several dozen similar cases were reported by Dr. Bernard Rimland in a study of 5,400 autistic children. Rimland believed he was witnessing genuine psi abilities in many of these children.
How can they do this, and what is actually going on here?
They have direct access to what we also call “the Akashic records,” or by its ancient name, The Mind of God. Why do they have access while we don't? We do, but we have blocked it with what we call our “self-image”: our personality. Why did we block it? To create a consensus, a status quo that shapes our understanding of life, programmed into us from birth to the present. Heaven forbid we challenge it.
And what are the building blocks of this consensus?
That life is hard and short. That we have to repeat things over and over just to remember a little. That our self-image is sacred. That being a woman is best, and being a man is best. That we should die for our country. That we have to work to achieve anything. That possessions are the goal and status is our purpose in life. This is only a very short list, the beginning of a much, much longer one.
Savants have no self-image, and those who do have a very weak and shaky one, because their frontal lobe is “damaged” according to the current medical “standard.” That is why they have unfiltered access to the ancient brain, scientifically called the lower cerebellum. Did you know that if you put a thin crescent of this brain, as thick as your fingernail, under an electron microscope, you would learn that this one piece alone contains more atoms than the entire new brain (which contains about a hundred billion neurons)?
This new brain that everyone reveres as the seat of human intelligence is the new kid on the block, still walking around the neighborhood in its founding parents' pajamas. It's rather funny and a bit tragic, but it's a fact: that is where our personality lives, with its glamorous self-image, in a windowless one-and-a-half-room apartment, about four percent of the brain. That is our conscious interface. That's it.
But the truth is, we have a cosmic hard drive. We were born with an infinite capacity to know, but our software interface is restricted to a social consciousness programmed for zero independent thought and maximum allegiance to those around us.
But not the savants. They have access. They are savants, meaning “learned.” But who taught them?
By the Mind of God, or in simpler but no less accurate words, All that is.
The next time you see an autistic person, treat him with respect. He probably knows more than you about all that exists, even if he finds it very hard to show you, or simply to tie his shoes. Help him. You are probably helping a genius the whole world has excluded for not fitting in, simply because he doesn't have a trendy image and an Insta account.
The whole world, but not you.
There, you have made the first crack in your self-image… and perhaps if you keep thinking for yourself like this, one day you too will know, because you will have access again.
To days of knowing and of respect for others, that is, knowing ourselves and honoring what we truly are.
With love,
Ran
